Women’s Health Language Project

Diversity & Inclusion Solutions

In partnership with the Toowoomba International and Multicultural Society (TIMS), Concinnity is supporting the Women’s Health Language Project, an initiative dedicated to improving health literacy among women from refugee and migrant backgrounds. The project empowers participants to better understand essential health terms, navigate services with confidence, and actively participate in their own healthcare.

The client

Our Process & Solutions

Our key contribution has been the development of a comprehensive multilingual glossary of essential health terms. Each term is carefully researched, accurately translated, and culturally adapted to ensure relevance. The glossary is made widely accessible online and used directly within community workshops at local hubs and neighbourhood centres across Toowoomba. By integrating resources with practical, in-person learning, participants gain both knowledge and the confidence to apply it in real-life health situations.

The Outcomes

The project is breaking down language barriers in healthcare by making critical information more accessible. Women from refugee and migrant backgrounds now have clearer understanding of essential health concepts, improving their ability to communicate with health professionals and access services. Beyond improved literacy, the initiative fosters community engagement and empowers participants to take greater control of their health and well-being — strengthening both individual independence and collective resilience.
